Calling
all adventurers…..Like to find your way around?Love that GPS?Check out the
newest way to discover the parks in Platte County – Geo Caching - Geocaching has arrived in Platte County Parks! Want to
learn more about geocaching? A Geocache program is scheduled for August 11 at
6:30pm at the Shiloh Springs Golf Course banquet room. The program will explain
geocaching and demonstrate the proper way to use a Global Positioning System
(GPS). Participants will also take part in a practice geocache activity on
site. Geocaching is an outdoor activity in which the
participants use a GPS to hide and seek containers called geocaches. A typical
cache is a small waterproof
container (usually a tupperware
container) containing a logbook. These coordinates of the geocache,
along with other details of the location, are posted on a listing
site. Geocachers obtain the coordinates from that listing site and
seek out the cache using their GPS handheld receivers. The geocachers then
records their findings in the logbook and online. Park users and Geocachers can
retrieve the coordinates from www.geocaching.com
to explore and find the hidden cache. For more information about the upcoming
presentation, click here or
call (816) 858-3419.
